Bookworm.

Established fact:  I am a reader.  A devout reader.  If I am not reading, I am wishing I was, or debating on the next great read.

This is my list of great books.  Expect it to grow, possibly every couple of days.  And if you are looking for a good read, I hope you can find one here.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly CloseJonathan Safran Foer.  Obviously this one is on here, as it helped to title my blog.  I can not recommend this book enough.  I have bought, lent, and forced this book on everyone I know.  Its the beautiful/tragic/triumphant story of a boy named Oskar.  His dad died in the World Trade Center on 9/11 and when Oskar finds a key in his dad’s things he embarks on a mission to find out what it’s for.  It will make you laugh and cry and touch your heart like no other book I have read.  Buy it now.

The Lovely Bones–Alice Sebold.  Another book told from the viewpoint of a child, this time a girl named Susie Salmon.  It’s a dark read, about Susie watching her family from Heaven (or whatever you believe comes after death) as they cope with her disappearance and murder.  A tragic story, but another one about hope and love and moving on.

The Twilight Saga– Stephenie Meyer.  Are you surprised to see this one?  I think not.  Just a fun read.  A great love story, and if you are normal, finishing book four will make you just want more Edward and more Bella.  As silly as it is, I call it one of the great love stories of our time.  If you are female and don’t want your very own Edward, I don’t understand you.

The Outlander Series–Diana Gabaldon.  I love this series.  Its about Claire, from the 1940s, who time travels back to the 1700s and meets the Scotsman, Jamie Fraser.  Another amazing love story.  And Gabaldon just came out with the seventh book.  They are long and romantic and have adventure too.  In fact, they have a little bit of everything.  If you like a good love story, give them a try.  If you like series, give them a try.  If you just love to read, give them a try.  It takes about 50 pages to get into the first book, and if you aren’t hooked after that, you might be crazy.

The Stand–Stephen King.  Even if you hate horror and refuse to read Stephen King, you should read this one.  Its a story that takes place post-apocalypse.  It has great characters, great writing, and is a great story about the fight between Good and Evil.  Love.

The Southern Vampire Series–Charlaine Harris.  An obvious read, if you are into the paranormal romance/fiction/sci-fi/whatever books.  Sookie Stackhouse is a great series with lots of fun characters and plots out the wazoo.  Fun, fun, fun.  I can’t wait for the next installment, which should be out in January 2010.

The Undead Series–Mary-Janice Davidson.  Hi, I’m Ashley and I love vampire books… You probably already know that though.  I recommend this series if you liked Twilight and/or you like chick lit.  It’s just a fun series about Betsy Taylor, who dies, discovers she is a vampire, and then finds out she is the Queen of Vampires.  It has some romance and most importantly its hilarious.  If Betsy doesn’t make you laugh out loud, I don’t know who will.
